How difficult is the Mount Ijen hike?

The hike is considered moderate. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit, with some steep sections. A basic level of fitness is recommended, but no prior hiking experience is required. Your guide will assist you throughout the trek. Porter is available with an additional charge which can only be paid on the spot.

How physically demanding is this tour?

The hikes to both Mount Bromo and Mount Ijen are moderate level and suitable for beginners with average fitness. Ijen has some steep sections, but your guide will set a comfortable pace.

Is it safe to visit Mount Ijen?

The tour is led by experienced guides, and gas masks are provided to protect you from sulfur fumes near the crater. Your guide will always prioritize safety.

Can I visit the crater lake?

After watching the blue fire, you can hike down to the stunning turquoise crater lake, the largest acidic lake in the world. However, this is all subject to local conditions. If there’s a new regulation due to volcanic activity, visiting the crater lake and blue fire can be prohibited for safety reason.

Will I really see the blue fire at Mount Ijen?

Blue fire sightings depend on weather and gas levels. We’ll bring you at the optimal time (around 3:00 AM) for the best chance to see it, and it’s visible on most clear nights. Kindly note that every first Friday of the month, the Ijen Crater is closed to visitors for the Ijen Rijig Program and also depending on the local government regulation.

What kind of accommodations are included?

You’ll stay in comfortable local hotels or guesthouses near Mount Bromo and Mount Ijen, selected for cleanliness and proximity to the volcanoes. Private rooms and en-suite bathrooms are included.
